Planning a trip by yourself but don’t know where to start? We’ve got you covered! There's no need to be afraid of traveling solo as a woman when you plan accordingly.
First, start off small. If you’ve never gone on a vacation by yourself, the best place to start is in your own backyard. It can be a scenic place in your country or somewhere a few hours from where you live.
One of our TraveLover Features, Aliya A., planned amazing adventures in her home country.
“There can be wonders found in your own backyard,” said Aliya.
Don’t try to book a vacation with a full itinerary. While it is great to plan ahead and research what’s in the area, you want to leave some room for exploration. Sometimes the best adventures are ones discovered organically.
One important tip to remember is to be observant. Keep track of the people in your vicinity and how long they have been near. No matter how safe a place may seem, you should always be aware of your surroundings.
We know you want to scroll down the ‘gram, but let’s face it, you’re a bit more vulnerable when you are alone. So, if you want to mindlessly indulge in social media, make sure to do so in a populated area. It’s always great to be safer than sorry!
Speaking of Instagram… you don’t need to post your selfies right away. In fact, we recommend posting after you have already finished traveling or just when you are about to leave. Even if the photo does not include your location, you never know if a predator may recognize the area you are in.
While the purpose of some social media platforms is to share your daily life activities, again your safety should be the number one priority. You can’t have fun if you feel like you’re looking over your shoulder!
Still not convinced if solo travel is for you? Talk to some other solo women travelers. Everyone that we have encountered here at TraveLoveGo has enjoyed their travel experience sans group.
Aanal P., another one of our TraveLover Features, said her most important tip to other travelers was to travel solo at least once in your lifetime.
“Traveling solo taught me how to fend for myself, talk to people, and handle unfamiliar situations with ease. It’s made me comfortable with myself, [and] helped me learn about what I’m capable of,” she said.
Not only is solo travel a liberating experience, but you can find out more about yourself while being in the perfect location. So get out there and plan your first or next solo adventure.
